Don’t Just Throwaway Your Unloved Gifts This Christmas

It is not uncommon to receive a present we don’t like at Christmas. In fact, it is estimated that 21 million British adults receive at least one unwanted gift each Christmas. Instead of throwing these away, consider doing something more ethical and looking for a greener solution.

Re-Gift

If you know that something is more up your friends or family’s street than yours then why not regift it to them instead? You can hold onto the present until it is someone’s birthday or simply give it to them with a smile. This is a great environmentally friendly way of disposing of all those unwanted Christmas gifts.

Charity Shop

Oxfam sees an increase in donations over the festive period. Let somebody else find joy through your unloved goodies by giving them to a charity store. The money made also goes to important causes. What you must remember before donating is that not everything can be donated so check before you put it in the sac.

Donate

There are many places that you can donate your gift to. For instance, you can donate unwanted toys and games like Lego, arts and crafts or simply board games to Children’s hospitals. As well as this unwanted clothing and blankets can be donated to homeless shelters. Lastly, woman’s refuge centres also accept donations. This is the perfect place to donate your unwanted toiletries, makeup, underwear, even pyjamas!

Return or Exchange

Buying presents can be difficult, it’s impossible to know what everyone’s taste is like. That’s why many people who give gifts nowadays also provide the gift receipt which allows you to exchange it for something else in that store. Many retailers don’t offer a refund without the actual receipt so unless they paid with cash or are willing to lend you their card you most likely won’t be able to get a full refund.

Sell Online

If the gift you have received is valuable and you don’t want to just give it away for free, selling gifts online is a great way to help them find a new home. There are so many amazing e-commerce sites like E-bay and gumtree which are straightforward and simple to use. This is the perfect way to make money from your unwanted gifts which can go towards treating yourself to something you will really love.

Present Swap

Do you know anyone out of your friends or family who wasn’t keen on a gift they received either? In this case, the saying ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’, speaks truly. Just because you may not like a gift doesn’t mean that someone you know won’t. So instead of casting it aside, find out if anyone would like to perform a present swap.

Conclusion

Make someone else’s Christmas special this year by doing something great with your unwanted gifts. Don’t just throw reasonably decent presents in the trash. There are so many options for what you can do with your unloved presents that there is no excuse to just chuck it. Merry Christmas Everyone!
